7 Days And Counting :)

It has been one whole week, we made it!
Not that I didn't think we would :)

Every morning we get beautiful rays of sunshine streaming in.
So quiet and blissful.
No more major traffic streaming past our home.
Why didn't we think of this years ago :)
But I think, even if someone had of suggested it to us, we would never have been open minded enough to be inspired by it. So everything happens for a reason.

Miss Personality has been enjoying having a soak in the camping ground pools every night.
And dad has been enjoying recovering from his surgery in total relaxation.
His last few jobs he has had, has been working 6 days a week.
So having this time off has been a dream come true.

It is awesome too having the visitors we have been having, now we are back in our home town.
We are all enjoying being closer to Miss Blondini too, especially dad.
We even got to watch Miss Blondini do a fantastic job at her first gymnastics competition of the year.

But with dad starting a new job soon, we have to wait till the wages start rolling in again, before we can save for our first goal, which is him getting his truck licence.

Any one else been through this process in New Zealand lately?
How was it?
Which were the challenging parts?
How long did it take before you could drive on the road?

Once he has his truck licence, there will be no holding us back and we will be going for as many trips as we can to Gisborne, to catch up with Mr Affectionate, and Mr Confident and his little family.

The only negative we have found so far about living in our bus, is the internet.
New Zealand is so expensive when it comes to mobile internet.
So at the moment using our Iphones as a hotspot is all we have.
But then again, one of the reasons of living in the bus was down sizing our bills.
So I guess it is something we will just have to get use to :)

For now we are enjoying snuggling up in our pajamas at night, watching DVD's together as a family before bed. Having the moonlight shine down through our pop up window on the roof as we chat and gently drift off to sleeping listening to the waves at the beach, which is just across the road.

The Great Easter Egg Treasure Hunt!

23rd April 2014

I love this photo. It makes me giggle and to me, it is what easter is about, kids having fun.

Now we are not a religious family. We don't go to church, but we believe that religion has some great morals and guides as to how we can treat each other better.

We had a quiet easter, away from family. But in some ways that can be a good thing.
Miss Personality doesn't handle too much chocolate well.
Saying she gets hyper is a bit of an understatement :)
But then again, I don't want easter to be just be about how many chocolates can I get.
Especially since we live in a country where we can just go to the shop and buy chocolate when ever we want.

I like the magical, child like excitement for the easter bunny though.
I like watching some fun movies about easter, like HOP.
I like getting sucked into the imagination of a child and just enjoy the idea of the easter bunny.

But we also started up a while ago, an easter egg treasure hunt.
We did it one year and ever since then, my daughter just looks forward to it every easter.

I like to go to the budget variety store type shops, they use to be called the $2 shop here in New Zealand.
You can find bags of these empty plastic easter eggs, and the great thing is you can use them every year. The amount of them you will need just depend on how many children you have.
Then I also buy from these budget variety stores, little bits and pieces.
This year I bought a sheet of stickers (mermaids), some fairy fake tattoos, plastic rings, bouncy balls, little water pistols. In the past I have also bought little rubbers (erasers), but anything you know your child will like and will fit in the egg.
Oh and of course some tiny easter eggs, can't forget those.
Then I write clues and put one in each egg, plus one or two of the little treasures that I have bought. The clue is what they must read and figure out where the next egg will be.
Not every egg has chocolate in it, but by doing it this way it actually become less about the chocolate and more just about playing a special game that she only gets to do at easter, where she gets to find treasures in an egg.

The other great thing about doing it this way, is that if you have a child with food allergies, you can miss out the chocolate inside the eggs all together.
Miss Personality had lots of food allergies when younger, which always makes easter hard to try and include them in all the easter fun.

Any way, no matter how you enjoyed your easter, hope you and your children had fun and really enjoyed it.

My 'Oh Crap' Moment.

Monday 17th March 2014

I had one of those moments on the weekend.
When I looked around me and saw my children, like really saw them and went 'Holy Crap! When Did You Grow UP!'

Sometimes life just gets away from you and you are just going through the motions.
Day after day goes by, year after year. These days and years seem to fly past even faster when you have children.

But this particular day, I got a surprise.

Little Miss Personality will be 10 in January. It has been 10 years since I have had a baby. She is tall, beautiful and has hair nearly down to her bum. She is adamant she wants to have hair like Rapunzel :) She was wearing these skinny jeans, and I looked at her and said where has my baby gone.

I got to spend time with my step daughter - Miss Blondini on the weekend too. She always likes to stand next to me with a big grin on her face, showing off that she is now taller than me at only 13. She is developing into a young lady now, who has a busy social life with her friends and her competitive gymnastics she does 4 days a week. Her dad and I have talked about who is going to be the lucky contestant to teach her how to drive, lol.

Mr Affectionate is working, races stockcars just like his dad and big brother have done, and on the weekend bought his first car. I remember so fondly this little boy that anxiously clung to his mum when ever something new and scary was about to happen, and now he is out there doing it all.

Mr Confident text me on the weekend. He said "I might ask my girlfriend a very important question :) If you know what I mean". Oh yes I knew what he meant.

So on saturday he popped the question. He said I didn't know how you are suppose to do it, but I did it my way". I said "There is no proper way to do it, as long as it comes from the heart that is all that matters".
It was so cute talking to him on the phone and letting him tell me of all their plans for the future.

Now I know they can't stay babies for ever and as parents we look forward to the day that they grow into independent young people. But it feels funny when you can still remember the day they arrived into this world, oh so clearly.

So I just smile to myself with pride at how wonderful they are.
I look forward to seeing all the wonderful things they do with their lives.

Blended Families And Becoming Grandparents.

Monday 17th February 2014

On the weekend I got to see my lovely grand daughter who is a month old. She is my first grand child.
It is the most amazing thing watching the transformation happening in our family.
My first born son, has not only grown into a man, but now a father.
His girlfriend and him are young, but still way older than what I was when I had him.
I am in awe of him, every time I see him and his little family.
Watching a person that you helped create, cuminate everything that he has seen or been a part of, into creating his own style of parenting, and doing a fantastic job of it too, might I add.

The foundations of this all, is a blended family.
Now no two families are the same, and they are even more different when you have blended families.
For us what worked for us will be different to how it works for others.

It has been interesting for us, to see how our choice to be a  blended family, has had an affect on not only the children we entered the relationship with, but also our daughter we had together. As well as a chain reaction to other family memebers like aunts, uncles and grand parents. It's something we never thought about.
When you enter a relationship, your main concern is how you and the new partner, get along. But when one of you or both of you have children as well. You are also concerned about them getting along with your new partner as well as the new children.
Then you have the ex's, to juggle and negotiate what situation of sharing the children, will not only suit the ex, but also the new partner and new children.

It can all seem hugely over whelming when you think about it in great detail, but when your in it, you just jump on the rollercoaster ride and go with it. Some days can be a challenge, other days can be lots of fun. Most of all, you are just trying to form a family. It doesn't matter where all the family members came from, as long as you all feel like you belong and are loved in your home.

We thought we had this blended family thing pretty sorted.
Mr Confident lives with his girlfriend and their little girl.

Mr Affectionate, still lives with his dad, but is working and pretty much doing his own thing.
I know longer have to negotiate with their dad over how much time I can have them each year, as they decide for themselves, and I now have to share them with their job and girlfriend (if they have one).
Christmas's and birthdays can still be difficult to negotiate, but what I have learnt the most is you just make the most of the time you have with them, when ever that may be, and for how ever long it may be.

Miss Blondini still lives with her mum, but she is nearly 14 and her dad can negotiate directly with her now, and then double check with her mum. Still making sure we respect her interest in gym and her teenage need to hang out with her friends. But we also know she loves every chance she can get to hang out with us too.

There has always been an element of sharing with grand parents as well.
Because of course, why should they miss out. They miss the shared grand kids as much as everyone else does. But they also don't have the same level of understanding that comes with sharing. Sometimes they can be lead to believe that you don't care enough because you are not prepared to 'fight harder' for as much time as you can with your child. I know they are only operating from their own desire of missing their grand child. But sharing a child with an ex, is not about fighting over them, or treating them like an object of possession. But understanding that this child has every right to spend as much time as they can with both parents. If the other parent is providing a safe and loving home, then there is no reason why the child can't spend equal amounts of time with each parent. But sometimes heart and logic don't always go hand in hand, and emotions get mixed up in there and then things can get messy.

Now we have become grand parents, we are seeing an extension of that complication.
My in laws, who are not my boys biological grand parents. Who have tried their best, given the circumstances, to treat them the same as their biological grand children. We are now observing an un forseen arkwardness in regards to becoming great grand parents. And it is hard not to feel a little offended by it, but then I still have to remind myself that this is their emotions, and they have every right to feel them, no matter what they are.

Our blended family is all happy about this transition. Becoming young aunts, uncles and grandparents.

But there are still a few of the family that doesn't know what this new transition means for them. Or how to deal with the situation without offending someone.

I have had my ex's wife, say that she is just the step grand parent. I said yes that may be the official title, but as far as I am concerned she is just a grand parent like me. Just so she knew that she wasn't stepping on any bodies toes by having that title.

Then my husband has experienced someone tell him that he is only a 'step grand parent' and it's not the same as when your own child has a baby. When as far as my husband is concerned he is a grand parent and proud of it.

Even though the juggle can be hard and I am sure a lot of people who are still married and all their children are biologically theirs, would read this and go OMG! that is just way too complicated, I could never live like this.

For us this is just what is means to be a family, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.
Our children know they are ALL loved by us and we will do anything we can to spend as much time as we can with each and everyone of them.

This is our family and we are poud of it :)

What The Heck Is This Blog About?

Sunday 9th February 2014

Our family unintentionally started on a journey of discovery, of what we wanted out of life and what made us happy.

So this blog is just about us finding what makes us happy.

At the moment our goal/ dream is live on some land  providing for ourselves, so we have less need to be in a well paying job as we will have a way of sustaining ourselves.

A long with this goal will be learning about growing our own food, looking after livestock and everything that comes with this. I am a total novice to all this, so it will be interesting.

But before that we need to get out of the trap of paying rent, cut down our power costs, so another goal is to have a home, that is ours, preferably mobile, so we can visit our kids and grandkids, where ever they may be. This may include building something or buying something already made or buying something partially made and then modifying it to our needs. Again a total novice, so goodness knows what it will end up looking like, lol.

We haven't decided which option is going to be the best yet. So some blogs with be about researching which option is going to be the best for us.

We want to be the best grand parents we can be, extending on our ever changing parenting style and just be there in any capacity for our children as they grow into independent adults and developing relationships with our grand children as they arrive.

I will also share my journey in home educating Miss Personality. As we learn what works for us and how we manage to keep extending on the areas of interest to her. I have found this journey so far, so much learning, not just for her but also for myself. The good and the bad days   :)

I also would like to share my personal journey with food and body image. To help keep me accountable and clear on why I am doing it, plus just verbalising my thoughts and feelings about myself as I get older.

So if any of things are of interest to you, and you are keen to follow my crazy, exciting, sometimes confusing journey in life, that would be awesome.

Plus knowledge is power, so if you feel like sharing any information that you have gathered about any of these things. Would love to hear from you.

I am really new to the blogging world, so hopefully I don't bore you to death  :)

Intro To Our Family.

Saturday 8th February 2014

When hubby and I first met, I was a solo mum of  Mr Confident and Mr Affectionate who were 11 and 8, from my first marriage. Mr Confident lived with his dad and Mr Affectionate lived with me. Hubby was a solo dad of  Miss Blondini who had not long turned 3.

Hubby and I managed to not only have an awesome relationship with each other, but our children all got along too, which was great. We also managed  the balancing act of sharing our children with their other parents.

It was all working out so well, we decided to move in together, then to along came Miss Personality, then the wedding and our blended family was complete.

Over the years we did our version of sharing the children, in a way that suited us and our children. Through out it all, their happiness is what meant the most to us.

At present we are a family of three, with my husband and I and our little girl, Miss Personality, who just turned 9.
Miss Blondini is 13 and is working so hard at her competitive gymnastics and living with her mum. Mr Affectionate is 19,has started his first full time job and is racing a stockcar this year, living with his dad. Mr Confidence is 22 and has finished his engineering apprenticeship. He as also become a first time dad to Miss Cherub in January this year and is living with his girlfriend.

We are still getting use to our new title as grand parents, but are loving seeing our children grow. We are so proud of each and everyone of them.
